The Carolina Panthers have acquired special teams star Colin Jones from the San Francisco 49ers for a seventh round pick.

Jones was a sixth round pick out of TCU in 2011.

Carolina showed interest in signing Jones last season when he was on the 49ers' practice squad.

Jones finished the season with eight tackles and seven "big plays" as graded by special teams coordinator Brad Seely.

The Dallas Cowboys have acquired offensive lineman Ryan Cook from the Miami Dolphins, according to a source.

The Dolphins will receive a seventh round pick from Dallas.

The Colts have acquired Vontae Davis from the Dolphins in exchange for a second-round pick and a conditional, undisclosed late-round pick in 2013.

Jim Irsay, the team's owner, had been hinting at a significant trade in recent days. Davis strengthens the Indianapolis defense after he lost his starting job in Miami.

"I think if Vontae were coming out in the 2013 draft, there's no way he'd be there. A guy of this caliber and with this talent level and skill set, he wouldn't be there in the second (round)," Colts coach Chuck Pagano said.

Davis was a first-round pick back in 2009.

The Colts have acquired Josh Gordy from the Rams in exchange for a future draft pick.

St. Louis has enough depth at the cornerback position to make Gordy expendable.

Gordy played collegiately for Central Michigan.

The Seahawks have traded linebacker Barrett Ruud to the Saints for an undisclosed future draft pick.

Ruud, 29, signed with the Seahawks in April after spending the 2011 season in a part-time role with the Titans.

New Orleans has seen their linebacker corps decimated by injury and suspension.

The Eagles have sent linebackers Moise Fokou and Greg Lloyd to the Colts for cornerback Kevin Thomas and a conditional seven-round pick in 2013. Thomas, a third-round pick in 2010, played in nine games last season with the Colts, starting five. Fokou started 22 games in three seasons with the Eagles. Lloyd spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad last year.
